Why do we need fats?

We need to eat a variety of products, including fats, to ensure that our bodies work effectively.

Most people are terrified of fats, because they believe they will gain weight, if they consume them. It may be true in some ways, but not consuming them at all will have a negative impact on our overall health.

Fats are the most important source of energy.

Furthermore, fats are stored as fuel in our bodies, which we require as a backup when we don’t get enough nutrients from food.

Moreover. fats are necessary for the normal functioning of our neurological system and brain.

Last but not least our skin, hair, body temperature, immune system, and hormone production all require fats.

 

 

Saturated fats

They are considered as unhealthy fats as they are derived from animals. Everything that comes from grazer are considered as bad fats that are full of cholesterol.

Saturated fats are linked to an increased risk of heart disease. Therefore they should be consumed max.  10% on daily basis.

Unsaturated fats

They are count as good fats and are plant -based. Some examples that have health benefits:

  • Avocados
  • Fatty fish
  • Nuts
  • Chia seeds
  • Extra virgin olive oil

 

Trans fats

They are known as industrial fats and are present in processed and fast foods.
